The natural horseshoe shape of the bay means there are plenty of places from which to view the action out at sea. Almost everywhere you go has the bay in view, so where you choose depends on what surroundings you prefer.

Hopes Nose, at the northern tip of Torbay, is accessible to walkers and gives spectacular views of Lyme Bay, including close-ups of the Orestone and Thatcher Rock, two rocky islands which are havens to seabirds.

Coming round the bay, Meadfoot Beach is a ribbon of rockpools and sand which looks south into Torbay. There is some car parking here, along with a cafe and public toilets.

Further down, Daddyhole Plain is an elevated vantage point. Some car parking is available.

Torquay has a bustling harbour with piers, a promenade and beaches from which you can spectate with all the extra facilities that a modern seaside town has to offer.

Paignton has the longest stretches of beach in the bay, with a pier and a harbour to add interest. Roundham Point offers an elevated position for a better view.

Between Paignton and Brixham there are several sandy bays and coves where you can combine traditional beach activities with watching the sailing.

Brixham itself has a large working harbour with plenty of tourist interest. It also has a long breakwater, popular with anglers, from where good views of the bay can be had.

The southern end of Torbay is dominated by Berry Head, a large promontory featuring a lighthouse atop tall cliffs. Berry Head is also an important nature reserve. From its commanding position you can see the whole bay, as well as south towards Dartmouth. There is car parking, a cafe, visitors' centre and toilets.

Additionally, you could get close up to the action from boat trips and ferries across the bay that run throughout the day.
